| The Salvador was one of a number of ships carrying immigrants under the management of Dr. Baruch Confino. Confino arranged for well-to-do immigrants to pay for more than their share of the cost of the voyage to help cover the costs for other immigrants. Canfino helped more than 3000 people reach Palestine.
On December 12, 1940, the Salvador sank in a storm sank off Silivri in the Marmara Sea and most of its 220 passengers drowned. Because of the tragedy, Confino suspended his immigration operations until after the war. Links: |
