| Sean Patrick Astin was born on February 25, 1971, in Santa Monica, California. His parents are actors John Astin and Patty Duke.
Astin attended Crossroads High School for the Arts and studied acting with Stella Adler.
Astin's first film was The Goonies in 1985. Astin starred in the 1993 film Rudy and directed and produced the short film Kangaroo Court which was nominated for an Oscar as "Best Short Film" in 1995.
