Warsaw is the the capital of Poland. Located in the east-central part of the country on the Vistula River, Warsw replaced Kraków as Poland's capital in 1596.
Warsaw was almost completely destroyed during World War II and most of the city's Jewish residents were executed by the occupying German forces.
